Is St. Patricks day really Happy?

Now with all due respect to the Irish. I cannot remember a St. Patrick day that I actually had off to go Parade, drink or whatever. I work,  then I go home and sometimes I remember to wear green. But of all the holidays in my opinion St Patrick’s Day is not one of my favorite holidays.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not anti-Irish.  As a matter of fact I am part Irish I think. Sop as someone with Irish heritage, I think how we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day only amplifies all of the bad stereotypes about Irish people.  Think about it.  What is the main activity people do to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?  They start drinking at breakfast. Geeez!  And that color of green you see everybody wearing doesn’t look good on anybody.  Most people who wear it can only do so on St. Patrick’s Day because they’d be ridiculed by the fashion police on any other day.  So, I, for one, want to replace this holiday with something better. So, “What New Holiday Should Replace St. Patrick’s Day?” I’d like to bring back the pre-Christian holiday May Day instead.  The end of winter and the beginning of true spring, now that’s something worth celebrating.  And it’s a day we should get off work to enjoy the day and include everybody and not just one ethnicity and isn’t that really what America is all about?  Plus we all just want a real Holiday, one we don’t work on.
