The Teamsters Union that represents workers at the WaterSaver Faucet Company in Chicago has filed a grievance with the National Labor Relations Board, alleging that the company is unfairly disciplining employees for “excessive” bathroom breaks.
The company installed a swipe card system to monitor washroom use, and defines overuse as 60 minutes or more during a 10-day work period. That breaks down to six minutes. Per day!
The company says they’re losing productivity due to excessive potty visits. The union says the company’s being very unfair.
Workers who abuse their breaks get a written or verbal warning, then a possible suspension, and then perhaps termination.
The written warnings are not made on toilet paper.
