Seven years ago a storm named Katrina had the Gulf Coast on edge in anticipation of where it would make landfall. Grocery stores shelves were empty, gas lines were long, the interstate was crowded and hotels were booked solid. Tropical storm Isaac is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, August 29th, the exact day Katrina did seven years ago and we're seeing some of the same anxiety. Isaac is only projected to become a category one storm at best, and once again grocery stores shelves are empty there are long lines at the pumps, hotels are booked solid. If it stays on it's current track I think the interstates will become crowded once more.
My point is Hurricane Katrina has given us a whole new awareness of how dangerous these storms can be. Remember before Katrina it was not uncommon for people to throw a Hurricane party when a category one or lesser storm was threatening us.
