MOTHERS DAY IS SUNDAY

WHAT MOMS REALLY WANT FOR MOTHER'S DAY
  • To have my 14-year-old answer a question without rolling her eyes in that "Why is this person my mother?" way.
  • Five pounds of chocolate that won't add twenty.
  • A shower without a child peeking through the curtain with a "Hi ya, Mom!" just as I put razor to my ankle.
  • A fulltime cleaning person who looks like Brad Pitt.
  • For my teenager to announce, "Hey, Mom! I got a full scholarship and a job all in the same day!"
  • A grocery store that doesn't have candy/gum/cheap toys displayed at the checkout line.
  • To have a family meal without a discussion about bodily secretions.
  • To be able to step on a plane with my toddlers and not have some pencil-neck-yuppie-geek moan, "Oh, no! Why me?"

Happy Mother's Day

SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE NEAR EXTINCTION

When's the last time you saw this in a back yard? Years ago a dog house was very common for families with a dog. Now with dogs becoming more and more a part of the family, it's not uncommon to see dogs lounging around on the sofa, or sleeping in their owners bed.

This is National "Be Kind To AnimalsWeek", also known as "Pet Week". According to a survey, 80% of dog owners and 63% of cat owners buy gifts for their pets. Pets are also better company than our mates. The survey asked 1001 cat and dog owners and come up with these amazing stats.

Nine out of 10 animal lovers say that after a bad day, their pets make them feel like a million bucks.

86 percent of respondents say their dog helps relieve their stress and tension.

45 percent of women would rather be with their four-legged friends than with their hubbies or boyfriends.

30 percent of men like their fuzzy pals better than their wives or girlfriends. Doctors say our animal friends may even help us to live longer by lowering blood pressure.

Knowing this, it might be time to go out and buy a pet.

SUPERHEROES MOVIE HAS THE BIGGEST WEEKEND OPENING EVER!

The Avengers has the biggest opening weekend ever, bringing in an estimated $200 million dollars.

It moved past the last Harry Potter film, which previously held the record of $169 million. The big question is will that number hold up with more superheroe movies opening this summer. The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3rd, and The Dark Knight Rises wraps up the Batman series on July 20th.

You know what the old saying is..."Records are made to be broken".

DOG TV
altText

The old saying is "Televison has gone to the dogs". Well don't look now but there's a new cable channel called Dog TV that could be in our area within the next several months. The C-E-O says the video is shot from a dog's point of view, which means colors are muted, sound is altered and even the music is specially written for dogs. He says they have one million subscribers in the San Diego area and have plans to take Dog TV nationwide in the next several months. Dog TV will cost about $5.00 a month.

A FLYING CAR?
altText

The old line from the Superman television series says "Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Superman. Well the new line will be "No it's a flying car". A car that actually flies was unveiled at the Auto Show in New York this year. It's a two-seater that has wings that folds up when you'd rather drive than fly. The car was able to fly at 1,400 feet for about eight minutes, and it has a price tag of $279,000. A company in Woburn, Massachusetts says around 100 people have put down a $10,000 deposit to get one, and expects to begin deliveries to customers within a year.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a flying car, but with all the rain and flooded streets we have here in New Orleans, I'd settle for a car that converts into a boat.
