Olympics Breaks Record In Viewership On Opening Day

More Americans saw Friday's Olympics opening ceremony than any other Olympics opening ceremony, summer or winter. Some 40.7 million people watched the coverage, which beat the record of 39.8 million people who watched the ceremony for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

According to Twitter, the biggest spike in tweets came not during Paul McCartney's performance, or the queen jumping out of a helicopter with James Bond, but during Mr. Bean's "Chariots of Fire" homage.

I miss watching Mr. Beans.

Steve "Summer Olympics" Suter

A three-hour stadium spectacular is about to get under way in London, marking the start of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The parade of nations is expected to feature most of the roughly 10,500 athletes taking part in the games. The Olympic cauldron will be lit with a flame that was kindled in May at the birthplace of the ancient Olympics in Greece -- but, as always, the identity of the final torch-carrier is a closely-guarded secret. Speculation focuses on Roger Bannister, the first man to run a four-minute mile, in 1954.
One of Britain's most successful contemporary movie directors, Oscar winner Danny Boyle, is presiding over the ceremony. It's supposed to highlight the U.K.'s history and impact on the world.
There will be live animals to portray a vision of a green and pleasant land. There will also be darker, grittier segments that dwell on the industrial might upon which Britain built a global empire and shaped world history.
One segment features actor Daniel Craig as James Bond. Former Beatle Paul McCartney will lead a sing-along.
The $42 million show, with 15,000 volunteers, is expected to be viewed by a global TV audience of a billion people.

CLAIBORNE TOWERS FINALLY COMES DOWN

This huge plume of smoke is where the old Claiborne Towers used to be. The building known as the Pallas Hotel was one of the last buildings remaining in the downtown area. It has changed hands several times since it's 1950 opening but has sat abandoned as a hotel for many years.

The demolition took place early Sunday morning to make way for the new University Medical Center, a hospital being built to replace the old Charity Hospital, which was closed after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and flooded the hospital's basement.

Finally ...Walgreens fills Blue Cross Prescriptions

Pharmacy chain Walgreens says it will begin filling prescriptions from customers in the Express Scripts network starting in September under a new multiyear contract between the companies.

Walgreen had stopped filling prescriptions for Express Scripts after a contract between the companies ended last year.

Shares of Walgreen Co. jumped 14 percent in premarket trading while Express Scripts shares rose 3 percent.

Express Scripts Holding Co. said it ended the contract with Walgreen because the drugstore operator wanted a premium compared to what Express Scripts paid other pharmacies.

Walgreen Co. has seen sales slump for several months due to the split, but had said it would rather give up the revenue than continue filling unprofitable prescriptions.

The companies said in a statement Thursday that Walgreen will rejoin a network of pharmacies available to Express Scripts customers starting Sept. 15. Terms of the new contract were not disclosed

WOULD YOU LIKE A NEEDLE SANDWICH?

The FBI is investigating how needles got into turkey
sandwiches on Delta Air Line flights from Amsterdam
to the U.S. Delta says what appeared to be sewing needles
were found in six sandwiches over the weekend.
The sandwiches were made by a catering company
in Amsterdam called Gate Gourmet. One passenger actually
bit into one of the sandwiches and is being treated with HIV
medication for safe measures.

I guess since the terrorists can't get a bomb on our planes, they are satisfied to injure us anyway they can. Also look for more regulations from our government coming out of this, like Airlines can't serve food on flights anymore.

Steven Tyler quits American Idol

Steven Tyler says he is not coming back for idol. He says he leaving "American Idol'' to put rock `n' roll first. He said he's leaving the show after two seasons to rededicate himself to Aerosmith, the band he sings for. The rock star said he loved every minute on the hit Fox singing contest but added, ``it's time to bring rock back.''
Stevens Tyler's departure leaves original judge Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez, but the singer-actress' future with the show is cloudy. Now jennifer Lopez said she was saddened to hear that he was leaving. She said that his departure definitely will play a role in her decision to stay and she is unsure if she is coming back either...unless they give her more money right?
