Seven years ago a storm named Katrina had the Gulf Coast on edge in anticipation of where it would make landfall. Grocery stores shelves were empty, gas lines were long, the interstate was crowded and hotels were booked solid. Tropical storm Isaac is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, August 29th, the exact day Katrina did seven years ago and we're seeing some of the same anxiety. Isaac is only projected to become a category one storm at best, and once again grocery stores shelves are empty there are long lines at the pumps, hotels are booked solid. If it stays on it's current track I think the interstates will become crowded once more.
My point is Hurricane Katrina has given us a whole new awareness of how dangerous these storms can be. Remember before Katrina it was not uncommon for people to throw a Hurricane party when a category one or lesser storm was threatening us.

Crossing the causeway you'll see lots of boats and bardges together. That's a project that is building an underground pipeline from Norco to Mississippi that would cross Lake Pontchartrain and cut through St. Tammany Parish The $220 million Parkway Pipeline project is laying a 16-inch line to carry gasoline and diesel from the Valero St. Charles Refinery 141 miles to Collins, Miss., where it will tie into other distribution pipelines,
The pipeline will skirt the far eastern edge of the city near Fontainebleau State Park and Pelican Park, it will travel only 0.3 miles through the city limits, affecting a single property owner.
Company officials said the project would affect around nine or 10 acres of wetlands in St. Tammany Parish and will not disrupt any archeological sites.
The pipeline will run 39.21 miles through St. Tammany Parish and will generate about $2 million in parish property taxes in the first year of its operation, It will have an initial capacity of 110,000 barrels per day, with the ability to expand to 220,000 barrels per day.
The pipeline will follow the levee in the Bonnet Carre Spillway and run along an existing pipeline corridor under Lake Pontchartrain. The pipe will be a minimum of four feet beneath the lake bottom. Neither Carlton Dufrechou, general manager of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, nor John Lopez, executive director of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation voiced any significant environmental concerns about the pipeline.

_ LSU has dismissed Heisman Trophy finalist Tyrann Mathieu from its football program for violating school and team rules.
The junior defensive back nicknamed Honey Badger was a surprising Heisman Trophy candidate last season as the Tigers won the Southeastern Conference championship and reached the BCS title game. LSU lost the championship 21-0 to Alabama.
At a news conference Friday, coach Les Miles would not specify the reason Mathieu was kicked off the team

Say hello to Shannon Eastin. She will be officiating the pre-season football game between the Green Bay Packers and the San Diego Chargers this Thursday night in prime time. It will be the first time an NFL game has had a woman on the field as a referee. Shannon is currently a college referee who has worked in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and is working as one of the replacement officials who have been locked out by the league.
We'll see if Shannon Eastin has what it takes to be an NFL referee Thursday night around 7:00pm on ESPN. Of course most of us will be watching the Saints against the New England Patriots.
